National Eating Disorder Awareness Week

Mandi Franklin, CPNP

February 22nd-28th is National Eating Disorder Awareness Week.

Unfortunately, this is something that is not talked about very frequently, but should be!

Here are a few facts about eating disorders:

1️. They affect men and women

2️. 30 million Americans will be affected sometime in their life with an eating disorder

3️. There are MANY different types of eating disorders (some include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating, orthorexia, avoidant restrictive food intake disorder, rumination disorder, laxative abuse, compulsive exercise)

4️. Eating disorders are treatable with help, however, only about 30% will seek assistance and treatment

I encourage those who have struggled with an eating disorder in the past, to share their story (if they are comfortable doing so). You have no idea how much this can help others.

If you are concerned that a friend or family member is suffering from an eating disorder, please seek help immediately.💗
