Memorial Day During COVID19

Updated: Jul 2, 2020

Cookouts. Vacations. Parades. Family gatherings. Pool parties. That is what your typical Memorial Day weekend looks like, right?

This year will be very different. Well… It should be, anyway.

Many states have started to open back up- restaurants and shopping malls welcoming patrons (with or without masks) with open arms.

Relaxing the stay-at-home restrictions could be disastrous.

I am fearful that these relaxed guidelines will give people a false sense of security and a “we conquered it!” message.

I am fearful that these relaxed guidelines will cause people to flock to restaurants and other various public places.

I am fearful that we may see a spike in cases and deaths in a few weeks after these guidelines have been in place.

This is something that no one knows. Not you. Not me. Not the President of the United States. This is why I choose to continue to physically distance myself and not let my guard down quite yet.

This Memorial Day, please continue to do your part—stay smart, stay healthy, stay cautious, wear your masks, and continue to distance yourself physically. I know that this is hard, but we are all in this together!

Happy Memorial Day and remember why we celebrate this day—to honor those that died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
